Tescana Chamber Orchestra

Created from members of the Philarmonic of Bacau, at the initiative of Ovidiu Balan, its conductor, the Tescana Chamber Orchestra is a musical group that has, from its very first concerts, contributed to raising the standards of the entire artistic group from which it was formed and to the enrichment of its musical repertoire.

For this reason, it has attracted the public's great appreciation, becoming very succesful not only in Bacau, but also worldwide.

Founded in 1975 and named "The Youth Chamber Orchestra", after only two years the group receives its final name , becoming "Tescana". Thus, the group is named after Tescani, the place where George Enescu composed most of his masterpieces and where he finalized his work of genius, the opera Oedipus.

The 15 musicians where selected from the string section, forming a compact group, united in their wish to interpret a repertoire containing rarely played musical works spanning from the preclassic period to the contemporary one.

Many works have also been composed for this orchestra, being interpreted for the first hearings on the Atheneum's stage or in Italy, Greece, Spain, Moldova etc..

They have made numerous recordings for Radio Bucharest and for Electrecord Bucharest with which they have made two discs containing the pieces they played that had been composed specially for them.
